The goal of this course is, through reading a variety of texts, to strengthen the students’ critical and analytical reasoning abilities, vocabulary, and study strategies.
 
By the end of the semester the students will be able to:
-- identify an author’s purpose
-- demonstrate vocabulary skills using context clues, dictionary, denotation and connotation, and figurative language
-- identify main ideas in paragraph and longer selections
-- understand pattern of support
-- understand an author’s point of view
-- differentiate facts and opinions
-- utilize an integrate written and graphic information
-- organize information through summarizing. outlining, and annotating
-- develop the ability to use logical inferences to reach reasoned judgement

This is a letter graded, 4 unit course.
A common final exam (boarded graded) will be taken at the end of the semester.

           Time: 8:00 am-10:00 am
The final exam will be counted as 40% of your grade.   
          YOU MUST TAKE THE FINAL EXAM TO GET
          CREDIT FOR THE CLASS!
60% of the grade will consist of in-class assignments, graded homework, and participation.
